neighborhood concert
I’ve met Zohar at the street concert of Los Kaparos on one of the roofs in Florentin – Tel Aviv. The occasion was, the 61th Independence Day of the State of Israel and as I moved away from the crowd, looked back to see what’s happening behind and there she was, executing a precise and beautiful ritual preparing her photographic equipment for some serious shooting. Since I am not a photographer and my familiarity with photographic equipment is quiet limited, I asked her if this is a Bronica .Big mistake of course but Zohar graciously corrected me with not the slightest sign of disapproval or condescending you would expect from a proud owner of a Hasselblad . It is always a great pleasure for me as an artist to look back and discover in retrospect the subtle shifts in the vast field of visual chaos, the many reasons that force us to choose a particular moment to look at some specific point and realize later that there was nothing accidental about that specific time and place in which Divine Providence smiles at us and opens up a crack in the Matrix to reveal something of significance, something meaningful and sometimes even inspiring. Such was the moment when I have opened Zohar Mor’s gallery of photographs at her site. Only later when I arrived at the second moment could I make the connection to the first one of meeting her and realize how gracious those blessed moments of instantaneous recognition can be. Instantaneous recognition is how I describe the feelings of elation that followed the first impression of seeing Zohar’s work. Like seeing a familiar face in crowd in some foreign land. After a deeper inspection, I could suddenly feel how those joyful heart feelings starting to percolate to the surface flooding me with a sense of inspiration and wonder. The precise compositions with the right sense of timing are well balanced with the subject matter, which is the human figure with all its uniqueness, beauty and precious fragility. The richness of the textures and colors along with a psychological depth of her subjects shows in my opinion a delicacy of an eye in a passionate dialogue with the great mystery of life, resulting in great art.
Thank you Zohar Mor.
